SONZ launch online education platform
We’re proud to have officially launched our online SportTutor education platform with our first training module for coaches, Coaching Athletes with Autism. This module offers a basic introduction to autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and it is recommended for anyone new to coaching SONZ athletes or wanting to learn about how to make their coaching environment more inclusive.
Complete the module today by registering here:
Future modules are on the way, and SONZ will update all coaches when they become available.
New Level 3 Coaching Course
Before the Christmas break, we will be sending out an expression of interest for coaches who wish to complete the new Level 3 Sport Specific Coaching Course which has been developed by Special Olympics International. New Zealand will be one of the first countries to offer this opportunity to coaches.
This course focuses on the skills and art of coaching and how to apply them into trainings, rather than solely focusing on knowledge acquisition. The level 3 course is split into two key parts:
- Online theory modules
- A sports specific workshop (A collaboration of SONZ and National Sports Organisations)
More information will be sent out soon with details on how to register your interest in the new year.
Coach drop-in sessions
Covid-19 impacted our ability to host club forums and caused us to think differently on how we can continue to connect and support our community. While we are confident the forums will take place in 2022, the new online drop-in sessions, the ‘Coaches Club’, will be for anyone who wants to catch up with likeminded people who share an interest in coaching and sharing information about what is happening at other SONZ clubs across the country.
Our final ‘Coaches Club’ session will be held on Monday 13 December 6-7pm
Details on how to attend can be found here:
