Young Athletes Weekend Programme: Wellington Region Term 2

Following the successful return of the Young Athletes Programme in Term 1, we are pleased to offer, and open registrations for a 6-week programme in Term 2, in Tawa and the Hutt Valley.

Term 1 Highlights

Over Term 1, more than 30 Young Athletes participated in 15 sessions developing their fundamental movement, interpersonal, and communication skills.

For Stephen Preston, seeing his two sons, Thomas and Christopher, work in a group and challenge themselves individually, and do so in an enjoyable atmosphere with other families, was a highlight of the programme.

“Thomas and Christopher had a blast, expended energy, extended themselves, and had fun doing it in a social setting.”

When the boys were asked whether they enjoyed Special Olympics, Thomas gave two thumbs up and a thank you, and Christopher said, “I love going to Special Olympics. It is good exercise and lots and lots of fun.”

Young Athletes Lead, Rachel Goodin, says it has been rewarding to witness the Young Athletes growth week to week.

“I have such a special job. It is fulfilling to see the Tamariki develop confidence in their abilities, take pride in their accomplishments, challenge themselves by trying new things, and actively participate in activities they enjoy.”

Rachel is looking forward to getting the Term 2 programme underway and continuing to provide a welcoming space for athletes, and families alike.
