Health promotion

As part of our Healthy Athletes Programme Special Olympics New Zealand's aim is to improve the health awareness of our athletes through health promotion.

Fast Facts

  • The purpose of the Health Promotion screening is to assess an individual’s overall health levels and provide education towards building and maintaining a healthy life style.
  • The screening is professionally run by volunteer health professionals and conducted to a very high standard.
  • If a particular issue is identified and requires further referral, this will be done in association with the carer or family.
  • It is open to all individuals with an intellectual disability in the region, not just Special Olympics athletes. Carers and families are welcome to come along to accompany/support, and can also find out more about Special Olympics in the area.
  • Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.
  • It is free!

In this section of the website we will also provide the necessary tools to our athletes, coaches and caregivers that they need to make healthy choices.

Below you will find resources that focus initially on healthy eating choices for our athletes and educational tools for coaches and caregivers.
