Kaa Dekker

Kaa-Dekker-1.JPGFor Special Olympics Auckland snowboarder Kaa Dekker, a trip to the World Winter Games in Austria is a dream come true.

“I’ve been overseas to Australia but never to somewhere like Austria – I feel really good about being selected for the team. It will be great to try something new.”

Although a trip to the northern hemisphere may be new to Kaa, the 27 year-old is no stranger to competition. In 2015 Kaa competed at the Special Olympics National Winter Games at Cardrona, where he placed second in the Advanced Super-G. He also competed at the National Summer Games in Dunedin in 2013 with the Special Olympics Auckland basketball team.

These days Kaa, who joined Special Olympics in 2011, focuses mostly on his football and snowboarding, and also plays ten pin bowling with Special Olympics Waitakere.

“Special Olympics is a really fun thing to do – I enjoy meeting other people and have made lots of new friends.”

When he’s not training and competing with Special Olympics, Kaa keeps himself buy running his business – doing lawnmowing, weeding and general labour in and around West Auckland.

Thank you to Kaa's sponsors!
