Chris Westcott

IMG_8768.JPGSpecial Olympics North Harbour athlete Chris Westcott says being selected for the World Winter Games in Austria is “really awesome”.

The Albany resident has been skiing with the North Harbour Club for the past six years. Skiing down at Cardrona is one of his favourite things to do.

“I like to zoom down the mountain at Cardrona – I really enjoy that,” he says.

The 22 year-old is also a fierce competitor on the slopes. At last year’s National Winter Games he won a gold and a bronze medal for his efforts.

He’s now hoping to bring home a medal from his first Special Olympics World Games in Austria. To achieve his goal he’s been training at Snow Planet in Auckland with some of his fellow competitors, and putting in extra time at the gym.

Outside of Special Olympics Chris is heavily involved with the Windsor Park Baptist Church where he is part of the young adult group and has a lot of friends. He also does karate and enjoys playing Playstation, listening to music and going to the movies.
