Rosehill school student Joseph Davis has been involved with Special Olympics New Zealand's school programme for the past seven years and has also played socially for Special Olympics Papakura.
The 18-year-old has become one of the school's leading basketball mentors, assisting younger players and stepping up to lead "when the game gets hard".
The LA2015 World Summer Games will be the first time Joseph has travelled internationally with Special Olympics and he is looking forward to the experience.
"I love playing basketball with Special Olympics. One of my mates went to the last World Summer Games and had a great time and he brought back heaps of skills for us," says Joseph.
In addition to school and sport, Joseph is studying Independent Living at Te Ara Poutama at AUT.
