Special Olympics Waitakere athlete has the support of friends and family from all over the world behind him in his journey to the LA2015 World Summer Games.
One of five children, his siblings are helping fundraise for his trip and judging by his online support, his extended family are right behind him with well wishes and inspiration.
The 36-year-old Massey athlete joined Special Olympics five years ago and has been playing golf for the Waitakere Club since 2010. He was the Club’s sole competitor in golf at the Special Olympics New Zealand National Summer Games 2013 and returned home triumphant with gold.
He trains once a week for two hours but also plays basketball, runs, walks, and does aqua jogging for fitness.
“I’m really looking forward to travelling to Los Angeles and meeting new people. It’s going to be great representing New Zealand and I will do my best in golf,” says Daryl.
Outside of sport, Daryl works at Countdown collecting trolleys, and enjoys watching sport (particularly the All Blacks).
