Simone Kokaua

Simone started her journey with Special Olympics watching her nephew play basketball, after her sister became a coach for Special Olympics New Zealand Simone started volunteering as a van driver.

Five years on Simone has now been named as the Athletics Coach for the World Summer Games 2015 team and is honoured to have the opportunity to lead the athletics team in Los Angeles.
As this is Simone's first international event she is looking forward to learning all she can from the experience, both from the athletes and other coaches.
Simone is a basketball coach, driver and committee member for Special Olympics Waikato. Outside of Special Olympics she works for Go Bus in Hamilton as a special needs driver and has also worked as a teacher aide at a local Hamilton school. As if she isn't busy enough, Simone recently enrolled in a Health and Fitness course where she hopes to learn more about assisting athletes with their fitness and to promote healthy eating.
Simone is grateful for the opportunity to work with our athletes and we are certainly excited to have her as part of the team!
What I love about Special Olympics

It gives our athletes the opportunity to grow and achieve their goals in a team environment. Helps them be included and become valued members of not only their teams but the community and personally it lets me make a difference to someone else's life.
