Jonathon Kok

Team Doctor, Jonathan Kok, is looking forward to the upcoming Games and spending time with the talented 36 athletes competing.

“These Games will potentially be a life changing experience for many of our athletes and I am excited at this prospect.”

As a Palmerston North Hospital Doctor, Jonathan has been involved with Special Olympics for four years.

“I first got involved as a volunteer when I was a medical student as it was a unique experience and a way to give back.”

While this is Jonathan’s first trip overseas with Special Olympics, he was also involved in the Special Olympics New Zealand National Summer Games 2013 in Dunedin, where he provided valued medical support.

His goal for the Games this year is to ensure the team is the healthiest and fittest it can be for the event.

When Jonathan isn’t working with Special Olympics he enjoys running, baking and listening to classic vinyl records.

“While I have a lot of interests, I have found my experiences with Special Olympics to be incredibly inspiring and rewarding – more so each time. I particularly enjoy interacting with athletes and getting to know the unique and brilliant personalities and their great senses of humour.”

What I love about Special Olympics:

I love the organisation’s ability to bring together people from all walks of life in a spirit of friendship, camaraderie and sportsmanship.
