Trevor Hethrington

Wellington-based Trevor Hetherington has been playing bocce for six years but has been involved with Special Olympics for more than two decades.

Earlier this year Trevor teamed up with fellow Wellingtonian Ann Lilley for Special Olympics Wellington’s Tier One Unified Bocce Tournament. The duo took out first place alongside two other athletes in the team section. They have since been training together regularly and complement each other’s game style perfectly.

Trevor says he really enjoys the camaraderie that Special Olympics New Zealand provides athletes and is looking forward to the LA2015 World Summer Games.

“I enjoy being around other people, travelling and playing sports with other people in other countries. It will be a lot of fun,” he says.

At 64 years’ old, Trevor is now retired from work but is studying basic spelling and literacy at Weltec. He has a daughter and two grandchildren.
