Josie Noble

The last time we saw Josie Noble in the public eye she was carrying the Flame of Hope into the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics New Zealand National Summer Games 2013.

A seasoned competitive swimmer and Alpine skier, the LA2015 Games marks the first time Josie Noble will don the New Zealand uniform at an international event.

Josie has competed for both Special Olympics Manawatu and Special Olympics Canterbury at a national level and is well known for her sporting prowess on the ski slopes (she won two gold medals and a silver medal at the 2011 National Winter Games) and in the pool (a Flag Bearer for Special Olympics Canterbury she went on to win three gold medals and a silver medal at the 2013 National Summer Games).

Josie is also an accomplished public speaker. Within her role as a Special Olympics New Zealand Global Messenger Josie has presented to several community groups around Christchurch raising the profile of the sporting organisation and its leadership opportunities.

She is also an integral team member at Plant and Food Research in Christchurch, where she works as a Research Associate. In this position Josie supports scientists in the lab, with data entry and other tasks.

Josie is relishing the opportunity to represent New Zealand at the LA2015 World Summer Games.

“It is a once in a lifetime opportunity, a great experience, and an honour. It will help me to become even more independent,” she says.

Outside of work and sport, Josie is a fan of the musical television programme ‘Glee’, loves drama, dance, and reading.
