Ethan Rangi

Whatever the sport may be, Ethan Rangi will not only give it a go, but he will excel at it. The 20-year-old sportsman is one of the talented basketball players who will be travelling to the LA2015 Games.

Showing his all-rounder skills, Ethan also attended the Labour Weekend selection camp as an athletics reserve.

Being selected to go to the LA2015 games has given him another great goal to work towards, as he gives 100 per cent commitment to all his sports.

The young athlete is a member of athletics, aquatics, basketball, football and winter sports teams for Special Olympics North Harbour. He also trains and competes with mainstream Club Takapuna Athletics, where he achieved first overall in his grade at the end of last season.

His love of sport runs in the family as his older brother, Troy, is also a multisport Special Olympics athlete. “Troy is my role model and training partner and we work hard together to do well.”

Ethan has grown through his involvement with sport and discovering his talents has given him a great boost in confidence. So much so that he also wants “to be part of Paralympics New Zealand; I went to a development camp this year for athletics”.

When he isn’t training hard, Ethan enjoys music and movies and hanging out with his friends, studying hard at Unitec and enjoys learning about horticulture and looking after plants. He says, “I have a season ticket for the Breakers and I go to all their home games – it is always fun and exciting.”
