Daryl Dobbs

Swanson-based Daryl Dobbs has been involved with Special Olympics for more than a decade training and competing in athletics.

His main sport is running and he is fast!

The last time he competed against an international team was the Trans Tasman Tournament in 2012 and he was an integral addition to the Auckland team, returning home with a silver medal in the 200m and bronze medals in the 100m and 4x100m relay.

He is very disciplined in his routines and supplements his running training with gym workouts and walking.

Daryl recently stepped up his training in preparation for the LA2015 Games and has high expectations.

“I can represent New Zealand well. I will make sure I make New Zealand, my family, and my friends proud. I will come back with medals,” he says confidently.

While Daryl is quiet in nature he has a great sense of humour and is quick to crack a joke – a useful skill for travelling overseas in a large group!

Outside of sport Daryl works in a factory packing items including headphones, and is a mentor for fellow flatmates at Te Rori a Mua Trust.
