North Canterbury's Nick Latz has been carving the slopes of Mount Hutt for two decades, dedicating hundreds of hours to the sport he loves.
His hard work paid off with his selection for the Alpine skiing squad that went to the World Winter Games in South Korea in 2013.
"Nick has always loved skiing; ever since he first stepped on the mountain when he was 11. He's now 31-years-old. Needless to say, he was very excited about the prospect of going to South Korea and representing his country," says Kate Latz, Nick's Mum.
Nick is no stranger to competing at events. He's been going to Cardrona every year for the past 15 years, competing at the National Winter Games every four years and Regional snow sports events in between.
"Nick has a big line up of medals and ribbons at home from the various competitions at Cardrona over the years," says Kate.
Two of these are Gold medals for winning the Intermediate Slalom events in his section at the 2010 Regional snow sports event at Cardrona. Such great results saw Nick's gym nominate him for the North Canterbury Sportsman of the Year Award that same year, for which he became one of three finalists.
