Lynne Donaldson

Lynnette-Donaldson-Head-Coach-SN-NZL-(1).jpgA Senior Constable with the Queenstown Police, Lynne Donaldson is one of many police officers around New Zealand who generously donate their time outside of work to Special Olympics.

Lynne was first inspired to help out with Special Olympics Central Otago’s snow sports team in 2005, after returning from a year in Colorado, United States, where she worked as a ski instructor at Keystone Ski Resort.

“I had my ski instructor’s certificate and wasn’t using it. I also had the time to be able to commit to something, so it felt right to dedicate my skills and time to Special Olympics,” says the keen skier and snowboarder.

As the Snowboarding Head Coach for a second successive World Winter Games, Lynne was thrilled to help talented snowboarders Morgan James and Brittney McKenzie prepare for the event.

“It’s great being in a team atmosphere and seeing how everyone copes and responds to the trials and tribulations that come with these events. Last time [2009 World Winter Games in Idaho and the 2013 Games] we saw all of the athletes grow so much in their confidence and personalities. That’s the whole idea of the experience really.”
