Jane Haskell lists Special Olympics as one of her 'great loves in life', so was "absolutely thrilled" to be part of the official coaching team going to the 2013 World Winter Games.
"I was a family supporter at the 2009 World Winter Games in Idaho so I have a pretty good idea what a magical experience this will be," says Jane, one of two Alpine skiing coaches that went to South Korea.
Jane also sits on the Snowsports committee and is Fundraising Coordinator for the Special Olympics North Harbour Club. Her involvement with the organisation came through her daughter Tess who is a North Harbour Club athlete, and competed at the 2009 World Winter Games. Jane's husband (and Tess' dad) Grant, daughters Madeleine and Charlotte, and new son-in-law Richards, have all been snowsports volunteer coaches too.
"It's the biggest buzz," says Jane. "The athletes are inspiring when we get out there on the slopes among hundreds of other skiers and snowboarders. There's a lot of positive interaction. They are fabulous ambassadors. They're definitely opening the hearts and minds of others."
