Special Olympics Manawatu's Conrad Ryan trained extensively at skifields around New Zealand, including training camps in Turoa, and Cardrona, and trips to Mt Hutt and Porter Heights ski fields in preparation for the 2013 World Winter Games.
Conrad has been skiing for 11 years and heads up to the mountain with his father (Special Olympics National Sports and Coaching Director, Mike Ryan), and brother, whenever he is not participating in one of his other seven sports.
"I'm now faster than both of them. I leave Dad in the dust," he jokes.
It is now 20 years since Conrad first joined Special Olympics and he says he thoroughly enjoys the camaraderie.
