Special Olympics Southland athlete Shonagh Clarke has been involved with Special Olympics New Zealand for 22 years. She loves sports, and when she is not training can be found at home with a sports-related book in hand.
Shonagh represented Special Olympics New Zealand in tenpin bowling at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 1991 in Minnesota, USA.
“One of my favourite things about Special Olympics is that it has given me the opportunity to go away and compete in other places. The Asia Pacific Games is going to be an awesome trip to go on. I feel very proud to represent New Zealand again,” she says.
Shonagh trains with fellow Asia Pacific Games athlete Matthew Caldwell at Superbowl in Invercargill, under Coach Alison Saunders (who also coached the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2011 New Zealand team).
Outside of bowling, Shonagh works as a mail clerk at SBS Bank, and enjoys cross-stitch in her spare time.
