Interesting fact: Special Olympics Manawatu athlete Jesse Williams shares his name with two other Olympics athletes—mainstream US track and field Olympian Jesse Williams, and Special Olympics Salisbury USA athlete Jesse Williams. As well as the same name, the trio shares a love of sport, competition, and camaraderie.
“I enjoy swimming and having fun with my swimming friends. The thing I like most about Special Olympics is having the opportunity to have fun with others,” he says.
The former Awatapu College student has a strong presence in the pool, and now works at the Lido Aquatic Centre in Palmerston North as a cleaner. He also works out at the gym three times a week.
When he’s not at the pool or the gym, Jesse can be found cheering for the All Blacks, especially Ma’a Nonu, his favourite athlete. He’s also partial to a bit of time out playing his Playstation 3, and devouring a good curry.
A fan of Australia, Jesse’s favourite place to holiday is the Gold Coast where his brother lives.
