Special Olympics Horowhenua athlete Jenny Webby loves swimming and competing, and is looking forward to the opportunity to represent New Zealand, while still remaining close to home.
“I knew I couldn’t cope with a month away from home attending the World Summer Games so the Asia Pacific Games is a perfect opportunity for me,” she says.
“The thing I love best about Special Olympics New Zealand is that it gives me an opportunity to improve myself.”
Jenny is an accomplished swimmer, winning a gold medal in the 50m freestyle, and a bronze in the 25m backstroke races at the Special Olympics New Zealand National Summer Games 2009.
Former New Zealand Olympic medalist Danyon Loader is one of her sporting idols, as are New Zealand’s Olympic middle distance champion runner Sir John Walker, and New Zealand’s Olympic rowing team.
