Special Olympics Southland athlete Deborah Humffreys has trained with Special Olympics New Zealand since she was at primary school. The 18-year-old Ruru Specialist School student still competes in our schools competition and is a force to be reckoned with in the pool.
This will be her first trip overseas representing Special Olympics New Zealand, and Deborah is looking forward to building new friendships, and some “competitive competition”.
“It will be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to making new friends, and of course, the competition in the pool,” she says.
Deborah lives at home with her mum and dad, sister Cindy, and cat Slippers. She is a big fan of Katy Perry and the Twilight trilogy, and supports the Southland Stags rugby team (former Stag and All Black Jimmy Cowan is her favourite sportsperson).
