Feilding-based athlete Amanda Hendra has been swimming with Special Olympics for 13 years. She says the organisation has opened doors for her socially.
“I love being part of Special Olympics. My favourite thing about it is getting to meet people from different teams, and to socialise with my friends. I’m really looking forward to representing Special Olympics New Zealand in Newcastle. I’m going to try and win my races, but am really just going to enjoy being part of the New Zealand team,” says Amanda, whose mother Shona is the Assistant Head of Delegation.
When she is not in the pool training, Amanda is a big fan of Italian food, especially pizza, lasagne, and spaghetti Bolognese; knitting, going to discos, and the movies.
