Scott Cowdell has been involved in Special Olympics since 2009, where he first attended the Palmerston North National Summer Games as a team volunteer for the Thames Valley team.

He became involved with Special Olympics as his sister is an Athelete in multiple sporting codes. Scott's passion to be involved grew after seeing her and her peers achieve success and enjoyment from this fantastic organisation and as they say the rest is history.

Outside of Special Olympics, Scott is a qualified Personal Trainer and Swimming Coach, which has allowed him to use his skills and passion from his professional life, "to help and grow every athlete that I have been privileged to coach", Scott says.

One of his key role models in life has been Matt Gordon, a fellow personal trainer and friend, who has defied the odds, after a terrible incident which meant he may not walk again however after years hard work and determination, he is now walking, training and representing NZ at various power lifting competitions around the world.

Scott is thoroughly looking forward to the 2019 World Summer Games and being involved with such a diverse group of athletes, plus seeing them strive to achieve their very best!

“Bring on the 2019 World Summer Games!!!” Scott says.
