Dominic Faherty

Special Olympics Wellington Athletics athlete Dominic Faherty has competed in multiple sports during his 10 years with Special Olympics. including Athletics, Basketball, Swimming and Tenpin Bowling.

Dominic transitioned to the Wellington Club in 2008 after starting with Special Olympics  in the AWD schools events, He has really enjoyed his time with the Club; and was really pleased he could compete in the 2017 National Summer Games held in his home town of Wellington.

Dominic has competed in three Special Olympics Trans Tasman events, two in New Zealand and one in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

Favourite track disciplines include the 100m, 200m and 400m Run events, as well competing in the 4 x 100m  relay races.

His dad is his favourite role model, and “like me he is tall” says Dominic.

When not training Dominic enjoys movies, watching and competing in sport.

His life is different since joining Special Olympics as he is now fitter, faster, and happier to be with friends.

Dominic is most proud of going flatting..
