Twenty five year old Special Olympics Auckland Basketball player David Menezes says he is really looking forward to playing for New Zealand against other teams from different countries at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi next March.

He trains twice a week and his local New Zealand Breakers basketball club are his role model.

David gave up Athletics back in early 2013 and is focussed solely on Basketball as his number one sport.

“Sports is good for everybody, even for people with disabilities” David says.

When he is not working at McDonalds in Greenlane (where he has worked for the past 3 years) David enjoys cooking, watching movies and playing on his Playstation.

Going to the World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi next year is one of David’s proudest moments during his time with Special Olympics. And he has enjoyed travelling away with teams and just playing Basketball as it has changed his life since joining the programme 12 years ago.
