Carlrton Vivian

The chance to play for New Zealand and travel is what Special Olympics Canterbury Basketball player Carlton Vivian is looking forward to the most at the World Games in Abu Dhabi next March.

During his seven years with Special Olympics Carlton has only ever competed in the sport of Basketball.

Winning a Gold medal at the 2013 National Summer Games in Dunedin is one of his many highlights is his personal best achievement since joining the Special Olympics programme.

He trains three times a week in his chosen sport and exercises six out of seven days a week as he prepares himself for Abu Dhabi.

Ex-All Black Dan Carter is Carlton’s role model. He wants to inspire others as Dan Carter has done.

Getting everyone to accept everyone else is what he believes could change the world for better.

Special Olympics has been life changing since joining. It has provided him with many opportunities; he has more confidence and has learnt many new skills.

Reading, supporting his local rugby club, are Carlton’s favourite hobbies and interests that keep him busy.
