Dominic Faherty

Special Olympics Wellington Athletics athlete Dominic Faherty has competed in multiple sports during his 10 years with Special Olympics.

He has competed in many sports including Athletics, Basketball, Swimming and having also tried his hand at Tenpin Bowling.

First starting with Special Olympics when competing in the AWD schools events, Dominic transitioned in the Wellington Club in 2008 and has really enjoyed his time with the club; and was really pleased he could compete in the 2017 National Summer Games that were held in his home town of Wellington.

Dominic has competed in two Special Olympics Trans Tasman events, both here in New Zealand as well as in Cairns Australia.

Favourite Track disciplines include the 100, 200 & 400 meter Run events, as well competing in the 4 x 100 metre relay races.

Dad is his favourite role model, and “like me he is tall” says Dominic.

When not training Dominic enjoys movies, sport (watching and competing).

His life is different since joining Special Olympics as he is now fitter, faster, and happier to be with friends.

Going flatting is what Dominic is most proud of.
