Kelly Nathan

Special Olympics Tauranga Swimmer Kelly Nathan has been with Special Olympics since 2007 where one of his first events was in Snowsports.

Kelly is swapping the cold of the mountains to the warmth of the pool in Abu Dhabi and is looking forward to “Swimming well for New Zealand”.

In attempt to swim faster Kelly is currently training three times a week.

Since joining Special Olympics Kelly feels that he is now fitter and just loves going along to train and compete against other athletes.

His role model is ex All Black captain Ritchie MCCaw, who Kelly says “always plays hard despite the wet & rain”.

Swimming medals is what Kelly is most proud of, and he has won plenty of them not only in swimming pools across New Zealand, but also on the mountain slopes of Cardrona and Snowplanet.

Kelly originally joined Special Olympics back in 2006 and has competed in over 50 events in that time.

Ironically given he works at McDonald’s (where he has employed for the past 8 years) Kelly’s favourite foods are Sushi and Fish ‘n’ Chips

When he is not working Kelly enjoys watching movies and dancing and checking Facebook.
