Robert Tebbutt

Although he has only been a member of Special Olympics Counties for four years, swimmer Robert Tebbutt has competed in over 20 swim meets in that time across the Upper and Central North Island regions.

In the build up to competing in Abu Dhabi next year, weekly training for Robert includes two pool sessions, three in the gym and one basketball training session.

Special Olympics swimmer Sam Muir James is one of Robert’s role models, as “like me he is a swimmer and he is fit” Robert says. Others include All Blacks Ritchie McCaw, Kieran Reid and Dan Carter.

Robert’s favourite hobbies include, swimming, going to the gym, fishing, boating, playing snooker, woodwork and gardening.

To make the world a better place Robert would make everyone fitter and healthier.

Meeting lots of new people is how Roberts sees life has changed for him since he joined Special Olympics back in 2014.

Winning his Ribbons and medals is what Robert is most proud of and his goal for Abu Dhabi is to do his best for his country, his club and his team mates.
