Richard Willmott

Special Olympics Canterbury Tenpin Bowler Richard Willmott, originally started with the programme as a basketball player, before focussing on his one main sport of Tenpin Bowling

Since joining the programme Richard back in 2007 Richard has competed in two National Summer Games, in Dunedin in 2013 and more recently in Wellington in 2017.

Richard has worked in the same role at Kilmarnock Enterprises for the past 23 years and when he is not working or doing his Special Olympics training he loves to following car racing & Rugby League, or watching wrestling on television.

Being selected to represent Special Olympics New Zealand and Canterbury is what Richard feels he is most proud of.

He trains once a week and intends to get himself fitter, so that he can do the best he can and beat his personal best tenpin score of 174.

Richards says he is most looking forward to meeting all the athletes from all of the other countries and to compete against them in Abu Dhabi next year.

Richards father is his role model “as like me he never gives up”.
