Special Olympics Manawatu bocce player Natasha Nicholson has been involved in Special Olympics since she was 19 years old.

In that time Natasha has trained and competed in Athletics, Swimming, Basketball, Football, Tenpin Bowling, Golf and Skiing.

Natasha has attended National Summer Games in Christchurch in 2005, Palmerston North in 2009, Dunedin in 2013 and last year’s national event in Wellington.

Having fun, meeting new friends and seeing new places are things that Natasha is most looking forward for the trip next year.

Playing Bocce against new people from new people is what she loves about Unified Sports.

Winning a Silver medal last year at the Nationals was also a proud moment for Natasha.

As well as her weekly Bocce training she also trains once a week in a local gym.

Natasha’s role models include her mum and step dad as well as her sisters.

She would really like to play more sport and get more paid jobs as this could then change the world.

Being selected for the Special Olympics New Zealand World Games team is what Natasha is most proud of so far in her life of 31 years.

Checking out what’s on Facebook, doing Word Find puzzles and having lunch with friends is how Natasha spends most her spare time; when she is not working at Studio 31 (where she has volunteered for the past 5 years).
