Ruaumoko Pukepuke

Twenty two year old multi sport athlete Ruamoko has been involved with the programme since originally joining through her local Secondary School.

Ruamoko from Special Olympics Rotorua has trained &/or competed in Swimming, Tenpin Bowling and of his favourite sport Basketball.

Steven Adams and his Aunt Grace are his role models as he can shoot three pointers and do layups just like them, Ruaumoko says.

He currently trains twice a week.

Ruaumoko says that his life changed since joining Special Olympics through going to sports training and meeting new people who then go on to become friends.

He is most proud of playing Basketball and making his city proud when he competes at the World Games in Abu Dhabi.

Watching live Warriors and Chiefs are favourite pastime of Ruaumoko, as well as being with his whanau during happy occasions and being at his local marae.

The 2017 National Summer Games in Wellington was Ruaumoko’s first major Special Olympics event since joining back in 2009.
