Mark Cressingham

The Abu Dhabi 2019 World Summer Games will be the second time Special Olympics Manawatu Basketball player Mark Cressingham has represented Special Olympics New Zealand on the World stage. In 2007 Mark competed as an Athletics athlete in Shanghai, China, where he won a Silver and Bronze medal on the track. Which are both one of Mark’s proudest moments and personal bests during his time with Special Olympics.

Like many other athletes attending these games, Mark is looking forward to meeting new people, making new friends and doing his best.

Mark has been involved with Special Olympics for 12 years having first started with Special Olympics in Wanganui before moving to the Manawatu club, when Basketball was no longer offered in Wanganui.

His goal is to do his personal best and to achieve this Mark is currently training 4 times a week.

Mark’s local Special Olympics Manawatu Basketball Coach, Donna Lewer and his brother Jason are Mark’s two role models.

If he could change his world for better, Mark would stop all wars.

Mark is fitter and has a lot more friends since joining Special Olympics, and is believes that through the Healthy Athletes screening programme and them providing him with sports glasses for Basketball, he can see a lot better and play better because of them.
