Troy Rangi

080-Special-Olympics-19-03-14LR.jpgTroy Rangi embodies the Special Olympics kaupapa “together we can!” The 26-year-old joined Special Olympics North Harbour 10 years ago to train in athletics.

Since then he has also competed in swimming, football, basketball, and Alpine skiing, and has been involved in the Special Olympics North Harbour Committee helping with fundraising, and coaching, as well as working at Pak ’n’ Save. In January 2013 Troy competed at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

“Through Special Olympics I have met a lot of people who have become my friends. I am now learning to coach other people and hope that they will be inspired by me and succeed in what they do,” he says.

“As a Global Messenger I will be in a good position to spread the word about Special Olympics and encourage people to be the best they can be, no matter what their condition or disability.”
