Naomi Jackson admits becoming a Global Messenger is a "big step" for her but one that she knows she will benefit from immensely.
The Special Olympics Papakura athlete is looking forward to meeting all the other Global Messengers who have been selected for the 2013 Class, and is excited about all the new skills she'll learn and experience she'll gain from participating in the national Athlete Leadership Programme.
Naomi is an ideal advocate for Special Olympics, having been a part of the organisation for almost 19 years. She initially played basketball with her Papakura Club but now concentrates on tenpin bowling.
"What I enjoy most about Special Olympics is working with different coaches, and getting to know other athletes from different sports and clubs," she says.
Naomi has worked as a Teacher Aide at Rosehill Special School for the past 15 years. Working five days a week combined with playing tenpin bowling every Saturday means Sunday is Naomi's only day off. She likes to spend this time with her husband Wayne, going to the movies and enjoying time outdoors.
