Jacob Osborne

The first thing Jacob Osborne would like to achieve from being a Global Messenger is overcoming his shyness. Secondly, he wants to tell the story about Special Olympics and how it has improved his life and skills.

"A few years ago I couldn't even swim," says Jacob. "And then at the National Games in Palmerston North in 2011 I won two silver medals in the 25 metre freestyle and butterfly events," he adds proudly.

Along with swimming, Jacob has competed in tenpin bowling for the past 10 years, but is now enjoying concentrating on improving his athletics skills.

"My next goal is to work towards competing in the 400 metre and 800 metre walking events at the Nationals in Dunedin (in 2013)," says the Special Olympics Counties athlete.

Outside of Special Olympics, Jacob works once a week at a garden centre near where he lives in Pukekohe.
