Melissa Donoghue

Special Olympics Waikato’s Melissa Donoghue is looking forward to promoting Special Olympics New Zealand to young athletes who are still at school and keen to participate in sports and meet lots of great new people. She’ll be telling them all about her experience with Special Olympics, and the confidence she has gained and good friends she has made since she joined in 2007.

As a Global Messenger, she also intends to help her team mates and other athletes gain confidence, and “most of all have fun”.
Melissa takes part in swimming, indoor bowls and tenpin bowling with Special Olympics and is keen to start gymnastics this year as well. In 2009 she represented her Club in swimming at the National Summer Games in Palmerston North.
Outside of Special Olympics Melissa enjoys horse riding, and has worked as a volunteer for a children’s day care centre. She lives in a flat in Hamilton with eight other people.
