Swimmer and basketball player Rebecca Heath has been involved with Special Olympics for more than six years. During that time, she has attended many Ribbon Days and Regional Games. She attended the National Summer Games in Christchurch and Palmerston North and won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals. She is now learning to ski.

Rebecca works as a Teacher Aide at Wellington High School in the Special Needs Unit. Her 11 students see her as a role model; nine of them are Special Olympics athletes!

Rebecca says that she became a Global Messenger because she “wants more people to know what we do … it is tremendous when people see how much effort we put into achieving”. She also wants to help get more media coverage for Special Olympics, both regionally and nationally.

Rebecca has two dogs and currently lives with her parents. One of her personal goals is to move into a flat and live independently.
