Andrew Boyce
Andrew Boyce
Andrew Boyce and Prime Minister John Key.
Active in swimming, athletics, football and basketball, Andrew Boyce has been involved with Special Olympics for more than 12 years. In addition to training and competing in sport, Andrew coaches the Greenhithe Grasshoppers, a Special Olympics basketball team for young athletes. Andrew works full-time on the vocational team at Matea Trust and has previously served on the committee of Epilepsy North Shore.
In 2009, Andrew joined Toastmasters International to improve his confidence when public speaking and has had many public speaking appearances since. Among Andrew’s aims as a Global Messenger are to spread the philosophy of Special Olympics far and wide, encourage other people with intellectual disabilities to 'have a go’ at Special Olympics, break down barriers and negative public perceptions that exist around people with intellectual disabilities, and raise public awareness about what people with intellectual disabilities can achieve – not what they can’t!
