Ngaire Harpur

Ngaire Harpur has been involved in Special Olympics since its inception in 1983 through her sons Wayne and Kyle (one of our Global Messengers). She initially joined the Special Olympics Canterbury Committee, before moving to Rangiora in the 1990s where she continued her service with Special Olympics North Canterbury.

She has exceptional organisational skills, and over the years has turned her hand to arranging fundraising events, fun runs and grant applications. But what Ngaire is probably best known for in the community are her annual Country and Western evenings where she regularly raises $2,000 - $3,000.

Ngaire has attended many National Summer Games over the last 33 years, supporting both Special Olympics North Canterbury and all of our athletes. Her fellow Club members describe Ngaire as a hardworking, loyal and tireless worker. They say that she is a very generous person and that she is well known for her love of Special Olympics and all that it stands for.

In addition to her dedication to Special Olympics, Ngaire is a fantastic mother to her two boys Wayne and Kyle and gives them as many opportunities as she can. They make Ngaire and Special Olympics incredibly proud.
