Snow Sports New Zealand

Snowsports New Zealand is a national sporting organisation representing the interests of adaptive snowsports, alpine ski racing, cross country skiing, freeskiing and snowboarding.

The organisation’s mission is to lead and support the success of competitive snow sports in New Zealand, with its’ core values being integrity, leadership, accountability, communication, excellence, commitment and collaboration.

Snow Sports New Zealand is a membership organisation and recognised by the likes of Sport New Zealand, the International Ski Federation (FIS), the New Zealand Olympic Committee, and other key international snow sports organisations.

As the national advocate for adaptive snow sports, Snow Sports New Zealand helps to remove participation barriers and encourage people with functional impairments to get involved in snow sports. Support includes assisting on mountain adaptive programmes, promotion, adaptive training for instructors and volunteers, and hosting national fun and competitive events.

In July 2014 Special Olympics New Zealand formalised a partnership with Snow Sports New Zealand, which will enable Special Olympics New Zealand athletes to become Adaptive Snow Sports New Zealand members. This entitles them to lift pass discounts from Cardrona Alpine Resort, Mt Dobson, Mt Hutt, Snowplanet, The Remarkables, The Snow Farm, Whakapapa, and Turoa; as well as retail benefits, and access to Adaptive Snow Sports New Zealand’s coaches, facilities, and equipment.

Special Olympics New Zealand has offered a snow sports programme for many years with athletes competing on the international stage at Special Olympics World Winter Games. By partnering with Snow Sports New Zealand the organisation will be able to raise our profile in the snow sport sector and expand our programme alongside Adaptive Snow Sports New Zealand.

The partnership will also enable the two organisations to provide a stronger voice for members in the community and promote opportunities to other New Zealanders who may not have considered snow sports. By combining forces they will be able to improve resources, events, training, and facilities for all New Zealand snow sport athletes with a disability.
