The Southern Trust is one of the top five gaming trusts in New Zealand and strives to provide a wide variety of community organisations with as much funding as possible. In its first 10 years, The Southern Trust has provided $162 million to communities throughout the country. It receives its funds from venue operators throughout the country who operate and administer gaming machines in their premises in accordance with legislative requirements. The Southern Trust currently provides funding to amateur sport, education, arts, culture, welfare organizations and various community organizations.
The Southern Trust is committed to maximising the return of gaming proceeds to the widest possible variety of relevant organizations. One way this is realised is through the prioritisation of efficient systems, excellent fleet management and high performing staff. Its core values involve engaging high quality trustees, operating with honesty and integrity at all times, being accountable to the community and being a good employer.
The Southern Trust provides funding to Special Olympics New Zealand for specific projects. Recently it supported the Special Olympics New Zealand National Summer Games in Palmerston North.
