Rachel Clarke

Rachel-Clarke.jpgWe were excited to welcome Rachel Clarke to the Special Olympics New Zealand family in 2016, in the new role of Healthy Communities Coordinator.

This new role aims to achieve three key objectives:
  1. To support and develop the integration of health and sport within the SONZ community. Sport promotes health and good health enables effective participation in sport.
  2. To support the development of the Healthy Athletes screening programme further into referral and follow-up to support the health and wellbeing of our athletes.
  3. To provide accessible health education for athletes, families and whānau and community service providers, and organisations which support the health and wellbeing of athletes.
With her background in nursing, mental health and health education, and her passion for supporting people with intellectual disabilities and making a practical difference to the community, Rachel is the ideal candidate for this new role!
Rachel already has her boots well and truly into the job and is initially focusing on supporting the Heathy Athletes Programme at the National Summer Games in November, as well as supporting the work of the lead clinicians in the five different disciplines: Fit Feet, Healthy Hearing, Health Promotion, Opening Eyes and Special Smiles. Rachel looks forward to working alongside Special Olympics New Zealand team, athletes and family and whānau as she develops the Healthy Communities Programme.
